The University of Catania is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its new International PhD Programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a fully English-taught doctoral programme designed to train the next generation of researchers in advanced pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.
Among the available positions, a PhD fellowship in Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) is now open for highly motivated candidates interested in interdisciplinary research at the interface of computational modelling, systems biology, artificial intelligence, and translational medicine.
The research project focuses on the development and application of innovative computational approaches to support pharmaceutical research and biomedical innovation, including:
Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP)
Mechanistic multiscale modelling
Artificial Intelligence for biomedical research
In silico medicine and digital twins
Computational biology and bioinformatics
Regulatory-grade modelling and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)
The successful candidate will join a dynamic international research environment that promotes collaboration across academia, industry, and regulatory institutions. The programme provides advanced scientific training while addressing emerging challenges in precision medicine, drug development, and computational biomedical research.
Applications are encouraged from graduates with backgrounds in Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology, or related quantitative disciplines.
This PhD represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation AI-enabled and mechanistic modelling approaches that are shaping the future of pharmaceutical sciences and in silico medicine.
Application deadline: 31 July 2026, 12:00 (noon).
